Cat is Liquid

Every artwork begins with a small spark — a fleeting image that makes me smile. For “The Cat is Liquid,” that spark came from observing how cats can turn any surface, no matter how uncomfortable, into their personal throne. There’s something both comical and deeply peaceful about the way they drape themselves, melting into the shape of whatever they’re lying on.
I started this piece with a few loose sketches, trying to capture that effortless “liquid cat” posture — one paw hanging lazily, the body spilling over the edges of an old wooden cabinet. The lines needed to feel soft and relaxed, like a quiet sigh on a sunny afternoon.
Once the composition felt right, I moved on to colors. I chose a muted teal background to evoke a sense of calm, contrasting it with the earthy green of the cabinet. The textures were layered digitally, inspired by the rough charm of watercolor paper and vintage storybook illustrations. Finally, I added a tiny mouse at the bottom — not in fear, but in quiet coexistence, as if they both belonged to the same dream.
This piece celebrates the whimsical world of cats — fluid, mysterious, and endlessly charming. It’s about the beauty of stillness, the art of doing nothing, and the small, joyful scenes that make life softer.
